Tapped after thought

I watched the documentary (Tapped) about our tap water vs bottle water in the United States.  In the United Stated, bottle companies like Coke, 7-up, and Pepsi would buy the material right to mine the local water resources.  These bottle companies often over mine the water resources even the water is beyond recovery that would cause a drought in that surrounding area.  They will keep mining water until the water runs below the water table or run dry.  Also, they uses petroleum plastic bottles (PET/PETE) which will cause cancer consume in a long run.  So, most of the plastic bottle will end up at the landfill.  The state government regulates them because they will set up a company in every states in the United Stated to bypass the regulated.  Final, they would file lawsuits against those people try to interfere with their business.

Synthesis

This semester we have discussed in Environmental Science class, in my opinion about climate changed is most important environmental issue.  For this reason, the global climate is changing possible cause by human activities burning fossil fuels.  According to my Geology textbook, it stated that if we continued increase global temperature these will happen: hotter temperature and shorter cold weather all most places on Earth, increases heavy precipitations and drought in some area, intense tropical cyclone activity increases, and rising in sea level.  How does the society as a whole reduce the impact of global climate changed?  As a society to reduce the impact of global climate changed, we can use more mass transportation like bus and trains; use more energy efficient appliances, and buy goods or groceries when necessary needed to stop wastefulness.  How can about I deal with global climate changed?  I can reduce the impact of global climate changed basically is the same as the society such as can use more mass transportation like bus and trains; use more energy efficient appliances, and buy goods or groceries when necessary needed to stop wastefulness.  However, it is easy said than done the action.  The most interesting thing I have learned in Environment Science is how multimillion-dollar corporation work in the United States such as Gasland 2, Tapped, and Food, Inc. (documentary).  All of the documentaries, I have learned multimillion-dollar corporation will do what every method to reach their proposed (make money), but they will file a law-suit against the individual tried to interfere their operation, which is very scary to know the true the dirty secret of the multimillion-dollar corporation.

Try to minimize energy consumption

On Friday afternoon, I drove home very efficiently with the technique I used in called “Eco-driving”.  After I went back to my apartment, I made sure that all the unused power bricks/strips are turned off.  Also, have changed all the lighting to LED bulb brought from IKEA that make my apartment more energy efficient, and all my electronics are energy efficient models except the central AC unit at my apartment.  I have set the AC temperature around 75-80 F^o (24-26C^o) which is the most efficient temperature for AC systems.  It is not very hard to change most electronics but it need thoroughly think and planning to make my apartment become more energy efficient.  As a college student, it is very hard to give-up internet, printer, and laptop (more energy efficient after I modified it) because my college work are heavily based on internet or on-line work and study.  I really do not know what things I still need to cut back because I have started cutting back my energy consumption practice since 2005.  Therefore, it have become much harder to decide what need to cut back because I have reach a point that I do not know what to cut back on possible I will try to switch on as little lighting as I can in the next year.

When I looked around my apartment, I already found the changes I make since four years ago.  For example, I can swipe out non-efficient parts for my laptop as I mention on the previous paragraph such as DDR3L and SSD, I had already swiped out all the traditional light bulb to LED and I have left some of light bulb out of its sockets to save some utility bills since I moved into my apartment.  After I changed out all the traditional light bulbs, I saw at least 20-50 watts drop in my utility bill just light bulbs alone.  I think I will keep finding new ways to cut back on my energy usage.
